KAZAN’s upcoming production is Unconfined by Liz Richardson.

KAZAN is a registered not-for-profit theatre cooperative working with professional actors, directors, playwrights and designers. The company is dedicated to producing compelling, contemporary theatre that often relates to the challenges of mid-life and its enduring possibility for change.

KAZAN’s founder and artistic director Kathryn MacLellan has been an active member of the local and national theatre community for over 35 years, and is the recipient of the 2015 Halifax Mayor’s Award for Achievement in Theatre. Her partner is her sister Janet MacLellan, an award-winning costume and set designer. The co-op additionally includes an eight person board of directors drawn from the artistic and business communities.

KAZAN’s previous performance space The Waiting Room was an intimate venue redesigned within an industrial building at 6040 Almon Street in Halifax; the building was demolished to make way for new development in 2019. KAZAN presented The Realistic Joneses at Park Place theatre in 2019; Unconfined will be presented at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (Windsor Foundation Theatre) in 2022.

KAZAN is very grateful to BMO Financial GroupArts Nova Scotia, and our individual show sponsors for their support.

KAZAN’s motto: “Be in the room.”
